Overview

ISO 12480-1:1997 - "Cranes - Safe use - Part 1: General" defines required practices for the safe use of cranes. It establishes principles for a safe system of work, management, planning, selection, erection and dismantling, operation and maintenance of cranes, and the selection and duties of personnel (crane drivers, slingers, signallers and the appointed person). The standard excludes manually operated (non-powered) cranes and most ship-mounted cranes, except when a land-based crane is temporarily affixed to a vessel.
