This document specifies a method for the visual assessment of pilling, fuzzing, and matting respectively of textile fabrics. This method is applicable to most of woven and knitted fabrics, including napped fabrics (fleeces, inlay fabrics).

Overview
ISO 12945-4:2020 specifies a standardised visual assessment method for determining a textile fabric’s propensity to surface pilling, fuzzing (ébouriffage) and matting (moutonnement). It applies to most woven and knitted fabrics, including napped constructions (e.g., fleeces, inlay fabrics). Specimens are prepared according to the corresponding test procedures in ISO 12945‑1, ‑2 or ‑3 and then evaluated by trained observers under controlled viewing conditions.

- Reporting: Test reports must reference ISO 12945‑4:2020 and include specimen description, number of specimens and observers, rounded mean classes, any photographic standards used, extreme conditions, and any deviations or unusual observations.
