This document applies to: — the following housings: — closed and adjustable flangeless housings for series 1 sleeve type linear ball bearings, — closed and adjustable flanged housings for series 3 sleeve type linear ball bearings, — open flanged housings for series 3 sleeve type linear ball bearings, — closed and adjustable flangeless housings for series 3 sleeve type linear ball bearings, — open and open adjustable flangeless housings for series 3 sleeve type linear ball bearings; — the following shaft support rails: — standard height shaft support rails for series 3 sleeve type linear ball bearings, — low height shaft support rails for series 3 sleeve type linear ball bearings; — the following shaft support blocks: — flanged shaft support blocks for series 1 and 3 sleeve type linear ball bearings, — flangeless shaft support blocks for series 1 and 3 sleeve type linear ball bearings; — solid and tubular shafts for series 1 and 3 sleeve type linear ball bearings.
Abstract
Overview
ISO 13012-1:2018 - Rolling bearings - Accessories for sleeve type linear ball bearings - Part 1: Boundary dimensions, geometrical product specifications (GPS) and tolerances for series 1 and 3 - defines the dimensional and geometrical requirements for accessories used with sleeve type linear ball bearings (as specified in ISO 10285). This second edition (2018) is a machine-element geometry standard aligned with the ISO GPS system and replaces the 2009 edition.
What the standard covers
- Scope: Boundary dimensions, relevant dimensional features and corresponding tolerances for accessories used with series 1 and series 3 sleeve type linear ball bearings.
- Accessory types addressed:
- Housings: closed, adjustable, flanged, flangeless, open and open-adjustable variants for series 1 and 3.
- Shaft support rails: standard-height and low-height (series 3).
- Shaft support blocks: flanged and flangeless (series 1 and 3).
- Shafts: solid and tubular shafts (series 1 and 3).
- Geometrical product specification (GPS): Uses ISO GPS rules (ISO 8015, ISO 14638 matrix model) for form, orientation and position specifications and indicates measurement uncertainty considerations per ISO 14253 and ISO 14253-2.
Key technical topics and requirements
- Boundary dimensions and tolerances: Nominal sizes and permissible deviations for housings, rails, blocks and shafts to ensure interchangeability and correct function with sleeve type linear ball bearings.
- Symbols and notation: Standardized symbols (per ISO 15241) and GPS tolerance notation for figures and tables.
- Materials and heat treatment guidance: General material and surface-hardening considerations for shafts (references to relevant standards for hardened layers).
- Geometrical tolerances and form controls: Tolerance classes, geometric form requirements, shaft length tolerances, chamfers and surface roughness considerations.
- Normative references: Intended to be used with ISO 10285 and other rolling-bearing vocabulary/tolerance standards (e.g., ISO 1132-1, ISO 5593, ISO 24393).
Practical applications and users
ISO 13012-1 is essential for:
- Mechanical designers and OEMs specifying linear motion systems in automation, robotics, machine tools and conveyors.
- Bearing and accessory manufacturers ensuring interchangeability and compliance.
- Quality assurance, metrology and procurement teams verifying dimensions and tolerances.
- Maintenance engineers selecting replacement housings, rails, blocks or shafts compatible with sleeve type linear ball bearings.
Using this standard promotes interchangeability, reliable linear motion performance, and consistent communication of dimensional requirements across suppliers.
