ISO 14605:2013 specifies the light source and radiometric measurement requirements for laboratory evaluation of semiconducting photocatalytic materials (fine/advanced ceramics) under an indoor lighting environment. The standard defines suitable fluorescent lamps, UV sharp cut‑off filters, measurement instruments and test/reporting conditions for assessing performance of indoor light‑active photocatalysts (artificial‑light driven photocatalysts). Note: “indoor lighting environment” excludes direct sunlight through windows.

UV sharp cut‑off filters

Two filter types defined:
- Type A: TLT ≈ 416 nm ± 5 nm; transmittance ≤ 0.1% at 400 nm; RoS ≈ 14 nm ± 5 nm; average transmittance 450–780 nm > 80%.
- Type B: TLT ≈ 392 nm ± 5 nm; transmittance ≤ 0.1% at 380 nm; RoS ≈ 14 nm ± 5 nm; average transmittance 420–780 nm > 80%.
If non‑standard filters are used, report spectral transmittance, product name/number, manufacturer and thickness.

Measurement instruments and units

Illuminance measured in lux (lx) using a calibrated illuminance meter traceable to national standards.
UV irradiance measured in W/m² or mW/cm² with a UV radiometer specified in ISO 10677.

Test conditions and procedures

Stabilize lamps for ≥15 minutes before measurement.
Measure illuminance and UV irradiance with and without UV filter; set test illuminance per the relevant material test standard.
Replace lamps when illuminance falls to 70% of initial value.
Monitor filter transmittance and replace or re‑measure periodically (filters can degrade under irradiation).

Reporting

Test reports must reference ISO 14605:2013 and include lamp/filter instrument details, transmission/emission data and measured illuminance/UV irradiance at the sample surface.

Intended for laboratories, materials scientists and manufacturers of fine/advanced ceramics who develop or certify indoor light‑active photocatalytic surfaces (self‑cleaning, antibacterial, deodorizing, pollutant removal).
