Overview

ISO 15883-7:2025 specifies requirements and test methods for washer‑disinfectors (WD) that employ chemical disinfection for non‑critical, thermolabile medical devices and health‑care equipment. This second edition updates the earlier 2016 version and focuses on single‑cycle cleaning plus chemical disinfection of reusable items such as bed frames, bedside tables, transport carts, containers, surgical tables, sterilization containers, surgical clogs, wheelchairs and aids for persons with disabilities. The standard also defines performance requirements for the WD itself - its components, water treatment, documentation, validation and routine monitoring. NOTE: it does not cover devices already in the scope of ISO 15883‑2, ‑3, ‑4 or ‑6, and it does not guarantee removal/inactivation of prion agents.
