This document specifies cleanliness assessment procedures for evaluating the amount of debris present on the clean side of the constituent parts of high-pressure gasoline direct fuel injection systems. The presence of such debris could lead to a reduction in the system's operational performance. While other International Standards (e.g. ISO 16232) relate to the cleanliness of different types of components used in road vehicle fluid circuits, this document focuses on the special procedures applied for the components of gasoline direct fuel injection systems.

ISO 19724:2020 specifies laboratory procedures for the cleanliness assessment of components used in high‑pressure gasoline direct injection systems. The standard defines how to evaluate debris on the “clean” side of fuel injection equipment (high‑pressure pump, injectors, rail, high‑pressure pipe and pressure sensor), because particulate contamination can reduce system performance and lifetime. ISO 19724:2020 is aligned with the measurement and reporting framework of ISO 16232:2018 and adopts the Component Cleanliness Code (CCC) for results reporting.

- High‑pressure pump: Method A (preferred) - operate on a functional test bench under engine‑like conditions (plunger stroke, speed 300–1 500 rpm, outlet pressure 0.5–2 MPa); Method B (alternative) - flushing with pump or syringe.
- Injectors: Operate electrically as on engine; reverse‑flow flushing (nozzle to inlet) with internal filter removed where possible; energising frequency typically 1 000–2 000 min⁻¹, energising time ~90% of cycle. Distinguishes “dry” vs “wet” injectors.
- Rail, high‑pressure pipe, pressure sensor: Defined flushing procedures and minimum fluid quantities (e.g., ≥0.3–1.0 l depending on component).
- Particle analysis & reporting: Particle analysis follows ISO 16232:2018 (Clause 9.2.3). Results are reported using the CCC (Component Cleanliness Code) aligned with ISO 16232 rather than the older FIECC.
