Overview

ISO 20333:2017 - Traditional Chinese medicine - Coding rules for Chinese medicines in supply chain management - defines a standardized coding framework to uniquely identify Chinese medicines for supply chain traceability. Published in 2017 (first edition), the standard covers coding of Chinese Materia Medica and decoction pieces, providing machine-readable information such as trade item identifiers, producing area, measurement unit, grade, production date, batch number, quantity in logistic units and the logistic unit identifier. It specifically excludes granule forms of individual medicinals for prescriptions (GFIMP) and Chinese patent medicines (CPM).
