This document specifies performance requirements for high-pressure decorative laminates (HPL, HPDL) intended for interior use that have core compositions not covered by ISO 4586‑1 through ISO 4586‑7. ISO 4586-8:2018 defines classification and performance specifications for high‑pressure decorative laminates (HPL, HPDL) with alternative core compositions not covered in ISO 4586‑1 to ISO 4586‑7. The standard covers interior-use sheets based on thermosetting resins where the core is either a coloured core (pigmented paper/resin layers) or a metal‑reinforced core (metal layers/meshes combined with impregnated paper). ISO 4586‑2:2018 is the companion document that specifies the relevant test methods.

- Useful for manufacturers, product designers, specifiers, architects, building contractors, and quality inspectors involved with interior surfacing, millwork, furniture, transportation interiors and other laminated finishes.
