ISO 5614:1988 - Locked coil wire ropes for mine hoisting - Technical delivery requirements - defines the technical delivery requirements, acceptance criteria and testing procedures for locked-coil wire ropes used in mine hoisting. The standard covers rope composition (round and shaped wires), construction, tensile grades, dimensional tolerances, protective coatings and the tests and certificates required for supply and acceptance.

- Diameter tolerances for bright and galvanized wires; limits on tensile strength variation; minimum numbers of reverse bends and torsions for wire samples.
- Zinc coating: minimum surface density for galvanizing - typically 65 g/m² for certain wires and 45 g/m² for shaped wires (as specified).
- Testing and inspection
- Tests on completed rope (diameter, length, mass, breaking-load test to destruction), and on wires removed from ropes.
- Test-piece rules: clear test length ≥ 30× rope diameter or not less than 1.5 m; testing machine accuracy ±1%.
- Sampling and galvanized-coating testing on a percentage of wires.
- Certification and packing
- Works certificates, full works certificates and acceptance certificates are required; annexes provide example certificate formats.
