This document specifies the method for tensile testing of metallic materials and defines the mechanical properties which can be determined at room temperature. NOTE Annex A contains further recommendations for computer controlled testing machines.

ISO 6892-1:2019 - "Metallic materials - Tensile testing - Part 1: Method of test at room temperature" specifies a standardized method for performing tensile tests on metallic materials at room temperature and defines the mechanical properties that can be determined. The standard covers specimen selection and preparation, test machine and extensometer requirements, test rates, procedures for determining yield and proof strengths, elongation, reduction of area, modulus of elasticity (see Annex G), and guidance on reporting and measurement uncertainty. Annex A gives further recommendations for computer-controlled testing machines.
