Overview
ISO 9283:1998, "Manipulating industrial robots - Performance criteria and related test methods," defines standardized performance criteria and test methods for manipulating industrial robots. It helps manufacturers, integrators and end users specify, measure and report key robot performance characteristics so that robot capabilities can be verified, compared and documented in a consistent way.

For valid comparisons between robots, parameters such as test cube size, load, velocities, paths and cycles must be identical; Annex A provides specific parameters for comparison tests.
- Coordinate systems and measurement: measured poses and orientations are reported in a common base coordinate system (see ISO 9787). Measurement points must be defined relative to the robot mechanical interface.
