EN ISO 13844:2022 (ISO 13844:2022) specifies a laboratory test method for leaktightness of elastomeric‑sealing‑ring‑type socket joints used with plastic pressure pipes. The standard defines how to expose an assembled socket/pipeline joint to negative internal pressure (partial vacuum) while subjecting the joint to angular deflection and deformation, and how to monitor and report any leakage. EN ISO 13844:2022 supersedes the 2015 edition and has been adopted by CEN as EN ISO 13844:2022.

Procedure highlights: align pipe and socket, apply deformation at 0.5·d from socket mouth, determine and set required free angle of deflection, apply and isolate negative pressure, monitor for pressure change/leakage while maintaining specified temperature tolerance (±2 °C).
