Overview - EN ISO 8029:2014 (Plastics hose)
EN ISO 8029:2014 specifies requirements for textile‑reinforced thermoplastic collapsible water hoses intended for general-purpose discharge applications in the temperature range −10 °C to 55 °C. It covers hose construction, classification by working pressure, dimensions and tolerances, physical properties, testing frequency, marking, packaging and storage. This standard is not applicable to hoses for firefighting or for conveying drinking water.
Key topics and technical requirements
- Classification by pressure (Types A–D):
- Type A (low): up to 0.4 MPa (4.0 bar) at 23 °C and 0.2 MPa (2.0 bar) at 55 °C
- Type B (medium): up to 0.7 MPa (7.0 bar) at 23 °C and 0.36 MPa (3.6 bar) at 55 °C
- Type C (high): up to 1.0 MPa (10.0 bar) at 23 °C and 0.51 MPa (5.1 bar) at 55 °C
- Type D (extra‑high): up to 1.55 MPa (15.5 bar) at 23 °C and 0.79 MPa (7.9 bar) at 55 °C
- Materials and construction:
- Flexible thermoplastic lining
- Textile reinforcement (natural or synthetic)
- Flexible thermoplastic cover - uniform thickness, fully gelled, free from visible defects; cover must be abrasion‑resistant
- Dimensions and tolerances:
- Inside diameters and tolerances are specified (multiple standard sizes listed)
- Cut length tolerances follow ISO 1307 (special rules for lengths >1 800 mm)
- Physical properties & testing:
- Specifies tests and acceptance for compound and finished-hose properties (e.g., tensile, adhesion, hydrostatic performance, flexibility, abrasion and light exposure)
- References established test methods (ISO 37, ISO 1402, ISO 9352, ISO 30013, ISO 8033, ISO 10619, etc.)
- Couplings and fittings:
- Guidance on compatible couplings and end fittings provided (Annex D and referenced guidance)
Applications and users
- Typical use: general-purpose water discharge, transporting water, aqueous sludge or slurries in sectors such as agriculture, horticulture, construction, industrial cleaning and temporary site services.
- Primary users:
- Hose manufacturers and compound suppliers (design, quality control)
- Test laboratories and inspection bodies (type and routine testing)
- Procurement and specification engineers (product selection and compliance)
- Distributors and installers requiring conformity, marking and packaging guidance
