Mechanical and environmental tests

Cold impact: tested at −40 °C; must show no external fracture and meet burst requirements.
Heat ageing: multiple temperature/time profiles (e.g., 1 000 h at 70–135 °C; shorter high‑temp exposures) per ISO 188.
Resistance to light: xenon‑arc exposure (ISO 30013) with retained cold impact resistance.

Chemical resistance

Tests for surface contamination and long‑term exposure to fuels, engine coolant (50/50 ethylene‑glycol/water), engine oil, non‑petroleum hydraulic fluid (ISO 4926), screen wash and battery acid (specified methods in Annex B, C).

Other requirements

Adhesion between bonded layers (≥1.5 kN/m per ISO 8033) where applicable.
Flammability limit (ISO 3795), electrical resistance (≤10 MΩ per ISO 8031), flexibility (ISO 10619‑1), internal cleanliness limits, kinking and vacuum resistance.

Testing regime and marking

Type tests, routine tests and production acceptance tests are defined (Annexes D–F). Type testing to be repeated at least every 5 years or after material/process changes. Marking and traceability requirements specified.

Applications and users

Who uses it: OEMs, hose suppliers, materials engineers, quality/control laboratories and compliance teams in the automotive supply chain.

Practical uses: specifying hose performance for coolant, vacuum control, screen wash and EGR lines; defining acceptance criteria for production and supplier qualification; guiding test labs on required methods and frequencies.
