ISO 277:2002 specifies the requirements and the corresponding methods of test for two types of raw tung oil suitable for paints and varnishes. It is not intended to apply to tung oils which are wholly or partly solidified as a result of polymerization.

ISO 277:2002 - "Binders for paints and varnishes - Raw tung oil - Requirements and methods of test" specifies requirements and agreed test methods for two types of used as binders in paints and varnishes. It covers Type F (from Aleurites fordii) and Type M (from Aleurites montana) and explicitly excludes tung oils that have wholly or partly solidified by polymerization. The standard defines compositional, physical and performance characteristics, and sets out test procedures (sampling, gelation test, insoluble‑bromide test and analytical determinations).
