Overview - ISO 8028:2017 for airless paint spraying hoses
ISO 8028:2017 specifies requirements for rubber and/or plastics hoses and hose assemblies intended for airless paint spraying. The standard defines four hose types (A, B, C, D) differentiated by maximum working pressure and maximum operating temperature, and covers construction, materials, performance tests, marking, packaging and test frequencies for both hoses and complete assemblies.
Key topics and technical requirements
- Types and ratings
- Type A: WP 200 bar (20 MPa), temp −20 °C to +50 °C
- Type B: WP 360 bar (36 MPa), temp −20 °C to +50 °C
- Type C: WP 200 bar (20 MPa), temp −20 °C to +80 °C
- Type D: WP 360 bar (36 MPa), temp −20 °C to +80 °C
- Construction and materials
- Smooth seamless rubber or plastics lining, wire or textile reinforcement, rubber or plastics cover (or combinations).
- An electrically conductive element (conductive compound or bonding wires) must be integrated and connected to metallic couplings; hoses are marked Ω (conductive compound) or M (bonding wires).
- Performance tests
- Hydrostatic/proof and minimum burst pressures per ISO 1402 and ISO 7751 (Table 2 lists proof and burst pressures for each type).
- Impulse testing per ISO 6803: assemblies must withstand 150,000 pulses at 125% of working pressure and at the relevant test temperature (50 °C for A/B, 80 °C for C/D) without failure.
- Adhesion (ISO 8033): minimum adhesion between liner/lamination and cover/lamination (0.8 kN/m for ≤20 mm ID; 0.9 kN/m for >20 mm ID).
- Ultraviolet resistance (plastic covers) and ozone resistance (rubber covers): no cracking after specified exposure (ISO 30013 and ISO 7326).
- Lining chemical swell limits (ISO 1817): defined maximum % increase in volume for common solvents (see Table 3).
- Electrical continuity: assemblies must meet the resistance limit and be tested according to ISO 8031 (methods vary with conductive design).
- Marking
- Durable marking at least every metre with manufacturer ID, ISO 8028:2017, hose type, working pressure & max temperature, inside diameter, conductivity means (M or Ω), manufacture date/quarter and batch number.
Applications - who uses ISO 8028:2017
