EN ISO 10765:2010 / ISO 10765:2010 defines a tensile test method to characterize elastic materials used in footwear. The standard produces a strength/elongation (load vs. extension) graph from a tensile strength test and specifies how to extract typical parameters - modulus, elastic gradient, limit of useful extension, maximum extension resistance and extension at break - for any elastic tape, cord or fabric containing rubber used in shoe uppers, straps or similar components.

Sample preparation:

Steel ruler, sewing machine, coated PU fabric for grips.

Measured parameters (from strength/elongation graph):

20% and 50% modulus - load at 20%/50% extension divided by sample width (N/cm).
Elastic gradient (EG) - slope of the straight part of the curve normalized to width.
Limit of useful extension (LUE) - point where slope becomes five times the initial average; expressed as % elongation.
Maximum extension resistance and extension at break - percentage elongations at peak load and at rupture.

Reporting: Test report must reference ISO 10765:2010 and include material description, averaged results for all parameters and any deviations from the method.
