ISO 16220:2017 specifies the chemical composition of magnesium alloy ingots and castings. It also specifies the mechanical properties of separately cast samples of these alloys (see Clause 7). By agreement, it also specifies the mechanical properties of magnesium alloy castings determined from samples cut from a casting.

ISO 16220:2017 - "Magnesium and magnesium alloys - Magnesium alloy ingots and castings" defines the chemical composition, mechanical property requirements and testing arrangements for magnesium alloy ingots and castings. This third edition replaces ISO 16220:2005 and adds new alloys. It covers material designation, temper and casting-process symbols, sampling, test-piece design and test methods referenced (tensile and Brinell hardness).
